Sing Out Choir is a pretty special choir

We welcome people living with dementia and other disabilities, their carers, family members, friends, and volunteer singers to experience the power of music in its therapeutic form.

It’s a supportive and comfortable space where we use the power of music to connect and create joyful moments that resonate far beyond our choir sessions. We are more than just a choir, we are a community, bound by melody and friendship

As the 2026 Community Group of the Year, Sing Out Choir continues to create connection, inclusion, and wellbeing through the power of music — and we’d love you to be part of the next chapter of that story. On Saturday 21 March 2026, join us for the Sing Out Choir Cocktail Party, an elegant night under the stars set in the garden of a beautiful 1880s homestead at 7 Avalon Place, Dubbo. With a marquee overhead and music in the air, this is an evening designed to be enjoyed - and remembered.

The Science Behind Singing & Dementia

Research shows that music can ignite memories, improve mood, and enhance cognitive function, even in those with advanced dementia. Music is more than sound—it’s memory, connection, and emotion.

Singing sparks memories – Even when words are forgotten, melodies remain.

Music eases agitation – Reducing stress, anxiety, and behavioural symptoms.

Music therapy is medicine for the brain and is widely recommended as an alternative to medication.

Singing creates community – Helping people feel valued, included, and connected.

Music is medicine for the soul, and we see it every week at Sing Out Choir. Some of our singers, who have lost their verbal skills, suddenly recall every word of their favourite song. Others, who once sat silently, smile, sway, and sing along.

    See the magic for yourself.

    Sing Out Choir Events

Along with weekly sessions, the choir performs throughout the region, from small gatherings and garden events to large-scale performances at the Dubbo Regional Theatre. These are wonderful opportunities that keep us connected with the local community and help raise awareness about dementia and the benefits of music for mental well-being.
